Getting Old And Coping With ED

Written by Stuart Stevens | Thursday, 10 August 2006 | There are 0 comments

Ukmedix is concious of the fact that men go through a number of  sexual changes when they get older however most of them do not lose the desire or even the ability to get erections and so many men stay sexually active right into their 60's and 70's.

One recent study seen by Ukmedix shows that 43% of men of the age of 70 or more say that they still occasionally masturbate and 59% of men who are married over the age of 70 also say that they still have sex with their wives. The surveys shows that even very old people like and need intimacy despite the fact that the desire and actual ability to have sex diminishes.

A number of things come into play that limits sexual ability in old men due to physical changes, being ill or depression. The natural aging process means that men are more likely to be unable to maintain an erection at all times and by the time a man is 60 this is very common. When a man reaches the age of 70 more than 50% say that they have problems with erections. Just because a man has problems maintaining an erection does not mean that he doesn't enjoy sex as much when he can get a satisfactory erection. Most men provided that they are healthy are fit will be able to carry on having sex and producing sperm until they die.

One of the reasons that men have less sexual ability when they get older is due to the fact that they often suffer from other medical complications such as heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes that are all linked to higher rates of erectile dysfunction. Also sometimes the medications used to treat illnesses can cause the impotence to be aggravated.

It has been noted that men who have experienced the humiliation of not being able to perform sexually will stop trying to have sex altogether as it only makes them feel inadequate. The psychological problems that come with erectile dysfunction add to the problem and create performance anxiety. Going to see a GP (or getting an online erectile dysfunction consultation with ukmedix if you can't face seeing a doctor) are the best methods of dealing with an impotence problem.
