Moderate Drinking May Help Erectile Function

A statistically significant 15%...

Men who drink to excess on a regular basis are far more probable to suffer from erectile dysfunction in the long term than men who don’t. A man who drinks to excess is likely to find himself unable to get an erection in the short term too.
However new research shows that men who drink mildly to the tune of around eight or more drinks a week could actually be protecting themselves from suffering from erectile dysfunction in the long term. The researchers that hailed from the University of Hong Kong said that moderate alcohol intake could over the long term lower the likelihood of you suffering from erectile dysfunction by a ‘statistically significant’ 15%.

Moderate Drinking May Help Erectile Function

The authors were keen to point out that this study was by no means a green light to go out and drink to excess every day because it is known that heavy drinkers and alcoholics suffer from higher rates of erectile dysfunction than people who do not drink. The researchers said that their study shows that a moderate amount of alcohol of around eight drinks per week could help erectile function but they did not know up to what point or how many drinks you could have every week before your erectile function started to worsen.

If you are concerned about your erectile function and wish to improve it, having an extra drink or two every week is unlikely to make any change. The best thing to do would be to lose weight, get fit and quit smoking if you do so. Men who are overall healthy tend to have a far better erectile function than men who are not healthy.

It should also be noted that men who use the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra will find that they work much less effectively when a large amount of alcohol has also been drunk.
