Sexual Function And Diet

What you eat can affect your well being, change your mood, give you energy and even change the level of your sexual function. It might be a good idea sometimes to observe what you are munching away at at a romantic meal because it could affect your performance afterwards.
There are many bits of advice that you can be picked up from different parts of the world, many of them have been handed down for ages and ages and the reason why they work is not always clear but there is definitely a little bit of truth in the fact that food can affect your performance positively and negatively. For example the Romans used a hippopotamus snout and hyena's eyes to boost their sex lives and the Chinese have been fond of rhino horn.
The vast majority of these aphrodisiacs actually have no scientific basis for working however they still continue to be taken in these countries and the men and women who sell them and use them swear by these old remedies. Often the reason is that the placebo effect kicks in on taking these medicines and a man or a woman convinces themselves that they are experiencing stronger feelings of sexual desire.
In fact studies have proved that for sexual function, a placebo can result in apparent benefits for thirty percent of males and fifty percent of females. There is therefore a lot to be said for thinking the right way for good sexual function.
Today the quest to find the best sex aids continues with reports saying that in the United States alone, over one billion dollars were used to buy sexual function medicines last year, with Viagra taking the lions share of that. Other medications like Cialis, Levitra and Uprima also rang up sales of millions of dollars. These erectile dyfunction drugs that are on the market are really only for people suffering from erectile dysfunction, however they have now become recreational drugs and are being used by the younger generation to increase their stamina and who have no erectile problems at all.
If you are suffering from erectile dysfunction, partial or otherwise, before running off to get Viagra or some other erectile dysfunction drug try changing your diet and eating certain foods that are said to help boost sexual desire and performance. An example is soy. It is said to be beneficial for women as it can bind the estrogen receptors that keep the vagina lubricated and also good for men in that it keeps the prostate healthy. Chilli and ginger are also reckoned to boost circulation (essential for good erectile function) and motivate nerves that can heighten sexual pleasure.
On a more direct level, weight loss foods can boost sexual function as it is clear that overweight men are statisically more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. Obese men are in the high risk bracket for low testosterone also. Keeping your weight low can decrease the pressure on your heart and this can only be good sexual performance. Heart problems and erectile problems often go hand in hand. Eating fatty foods can block arteries and this may stop the bloodflow getting to the genitals, which is likely to cause erectile dysfunction and intefere with sexual pleasure.
Research also shows that not having enough fat can also be bad and fat is a crucial factor in the production of hormones. Certain fatty foods like olive oil nuts and fish are the best producers of the good monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
So next time you decide to eat something, think before you put it in your mouth and ask yourself...."Is this good for my sex life"....
