Strike Up A Conversation About ED

Written by Stuart Stevens | Tuesday, 09 May 2006 | There are 0 comments

The worldwide efforts of big drug companies to promote erectile dysfunction medication and to get people talking about impotence has reached the Philippines. The message that is being sent out is that men need not worry anymore and that the drugs can really help with an erectile dysfunction problem provided they are able to be honest and clear about the problem.

A leading doctor from the Manila explained that the embarassment of communicating the ED problem can be the reason why a man doesn't get treatment and remains impotent. The inability to talk about erectile dysfunction may not just be bad for erectile function but may also have serious health consequences as erectile dysfunction is often considered to be a forewarning device of serious health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary hypertension, high blood pressure and others.

A consultant from a medical centre in Manila said that there were many reasons why a man felt unable to talk about ED to his doctor. Men who lived in very machismo environments and from cultures where sexual virilty was especially prized would have more difficulty admitting to a doctor that they had an erection problem. The Filipino culture is a very machisimo one and therefore one in which men would have a problem coming forward to talk about erectile dysfunction.

A leading drug company, Bayer Pharmaceuticals has recently launched part of its worldwide health intiative in the Philippines with the intention of breaking down the barrier of communication between men, their sexual partners and doctors. The campaign is called Strike Up A Conversation and is simply designed to get people chatting about the problem and therefore to remove the stigma associated with erectile dysfunction.

Bayer have set up a Men’s Vitality Place which allows men to get free erctile dysfunction check ups and gives all participants the all essential facts about the things that cause ED and how to cure it. The mobile clinic is making its way around Manila and is being set up in public places for 2 days periods. Bayer is also using the increased awareness about erectile dysfunction to launch and promote its new drug called Levitra that is said to be a serious rival to Viagra.

Bayer Pharmaceuticals reckon that more than 150 million men suffer fom ED and many more suffer from erection difficulties at some point in their lives. The drug companies are aware that only a small number of these men who would benefit from erectile dysfunction medicines actually use them and that the market is still relatively untapped.
