Cannabis May Cause Impotence

A stark new warning has been directed at young people who smoke cannabis saying that prolonged use of the drug could lead them to suffering from erectile dysfunction while still young.

Cannabis May Cause Impotence

The warning which came from the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in Scotland claims that men as young as seventeen have been visiting the clinic there suffering from erectile dysfunction. This area of Scotland has a very serious drug problem and sometimes children as young as ten are already using cannabis as a recreational drug.

Ian Russell from the hospital said that smoking cannabis during puberty is especially bad because it suppresses the development of certain cells which are essential for the production of testosterone in the testicles. Overtime this can cause below average levels of testosterone which reduce the desire for sex and the ability therefore to sustain an erection normally.

This link between extended cannabis use and erectile dysfunction has not been properly clinically evaluated but from the little evidence around it appears that the connection is strong especially in those men who start using cannabis when going through their early teenage years.

If the link between this cannabis use and erectile dysfunction can be definitely proved it will have a big effect in encouraging young men to stay well away from smoking cannabis. Previous research that we have seen at Ukmedix News shows that linking something to erectile dysfunction is a very strong deterrent for men to stop doing whatever it is. This is borne out by the fact that one of the most effective ways to stop men smoking cigarettes is to warn them about the increased likelihood of erectile dysfunction.

It is not just cannabis which is linked to erectile dysfunction but in fact all types of recreational drugs. If you damage your health by taking cocaine, heroin or similar drugs you will put yourself in a higher risk bracket for suffering from erectile dysfunction in the near future and also in old age.
