At Ukmedix News we have seen literally hundreds of reports sent out by the manufacturers of Chinese herbal remedies for erectile dysfunction claiming that their ancient potions for this condition are very effective. Most of these reports are quickly thrown in the bin and forgotten about however one recently caught our eye. An Italian research project led by a number of professors from the University of Milan and also from the University of Bologna has concluded that the “horny goat weed” could have some proper clinical applications as a remedy to help men suffering from erectile dysfunction.

The plant which is a normal looking green shrub goes by the Chinese name of Yin Yang Huo and has been known about for centuries by traditional healers in China. The fact that so much fake erectile dysfunction medication comes out of China purporting to be natural when in fact it is laced with the active ingredient of Viagra, Cialis or Levitra means that most Chinese remedies should be immediately discarded as serious medication for treating impotence.
The clinical testing that was done with the horny goat weed was not actually done on patients but what the scientist did was expose the herbal extracts from this plant to a particular enzyme which is known to regulate blood flow to the penile artery and thus causes an erection. They noticed that the enzyme was inhibited which is the same reaction that occurs when Viagra or other erectile dysfunction medications are used.
Mario Dell’Agli and his colleagues said that by modifying the active chemical found in horny goat weed called icariin they ended up with something just as effective as Viagra and possibly something which when tested on humans will produce far less side effects. They claimed that the horny goat weed extract targeted the enzyme more precisely than Viagra.
The study will be soon be published in the Journal of Natural Products and Ukmedix News looks forward to hearing about more research done on this natural remedy.
