Manorama said that a medical certificate should be produced

A report from India shows that the legendary actress Manorama who has acted in well over 1,000 films is supporting a campaign which will mean that men will have to prove that they are not impotent before getting married.

Erectile Potency Certificate Before Marriage Required

Manorama, a legend of Kollywood, (yes Kollywood, not Bollywood) is well respected by both the people and politicians in the region of Chennai (formally known as Madras.) She has spoken to the deputy chief minister MK Stalin as well as the health minister MRK Paneerselvam and urged them to legislate in this regard.

Manorama claims that there have been many cases when men get married in the full awareness that they are sexually impotent and therefore are unable to consummate the marriage. She said that she was motivated to do something about this after she heard of the case of a young bride who was tricked into an impotent marriage and is now suing her husband in the courts. Manorama also said that a medical certificate should be produced certifying that both partners are sexually healthy and that they have both tested negative for HIV.

At Ukmedix News while these certificates in theory should be able to be produced it would be difficult for a doctor to actually certify whether a man is able to get an erection or not. The idea that a man would be required to produce an erection in the presence of a doctor is not realistic and in itself could prove to be impossible for many men. On the other hand a certificate of declaration by the individual himself that he was sexually potent could be utilised instead.

Manorama, said that she would not stop campaigning until the problem of impotent husbands is dealt with properly and that it stops being a subject which is only “whispered behind veils."

I agree that for men to marry knowing that they are impotant is horrible, however getting an erection in the presence of a doctor to get a certicicate is disgusting!!! what if the doctor is gay???
