New research published by the International Journal of Mens Health shows that men who are circumcised have a considerably greater chance of suffering from erectile dysfunction compared to those men who still have their foreskins. In fact the study which was done by Professors Dan Bollinger and Robert S. Van Howe claims that the risk of erectile dysfunction in circumcised men is a very worrying 4.5 times larger!

The study which was done involving 300 men actually confirms what other studies have previously shown. For example a study done in Denmark noted that circumcised men had a three times greater risk of some form of sexual dysfunction. There is also considerable concern among some sexual health practitioners that circumcision also can cause premature ejaculation. There is the argument that because the tip of the penis is not properly protected by the foreskin it responds too quickly to sexual activity and therefore causes premature ejaculation. Some other sexual health experts claim that circumcision causes erectile dysfunction because it decreases penile sensitivity.
The jury is still out on this one because there are millions of men around the world who are circumcised and have absolutely no problems with erectile function. They does not seem to be more erectile dysfunction in countries where circumcision is normal like Israel so surveys suggesting that circumcision causes erectile dysfunction need to be analyzed with some caution.
One thing is for sure however which is that male circumcision is not something which should be taken lightly and should be done extremely carefully. There are extremely sensitive nerve endings at the tip of the penis which are essential for good sex. If these nerves are damaged during circumcision even in the case of a baby it could lead to long term sexual dysfunction.
At Ukmedix News our advice would be to avoid circumcision unless it is absolutely essential.
