Yet another research project has proven the link between erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease. This time it is the Framingham Heart Study which has made clear that a healthy heart is a requisite in order to have good sexual function.

The research from the American College of Cardiology Journal claims that men with impotence had a 40 percent increased risk of cardiovascular disease, such as a heart attack or stroke when compared to those men who have good erectile function.
The researchers said that all doctors should immediately check for for cardiovascular disease when a man reports erectile dysfunction to them. Professor Araujo, director of epidemiology from the New England Research Institutes and who led this research explained that in the same way that reduced blood flow to your heart and the brain caused heart disease and strokes respectively a lack of blood flow to the penile artery caused erectile dysfunction.
Overall a thousand men between the age of 40 and 70 were monitored for around twelve years. Because of the highest standards that the Framingham study used the results showing the link between erectile dysfunction and cardio disease will be of particular interest to doctors and researchers around the world.
We have often written about the importance of good health for good erectile function at Ukmedix News and how men should go and get a full medical checkup if they feel their erectile function on the wane.
It doesn’t always mean that you have heart disease if you are suffering from erectile dysfunction but there’s no harm in getting yourself checked out and making sure that you keep an eye on any lifestyle factors such as drinking, smoking and overeating which are known to aggravate impotence.
Sometimes men only find out that they have heart disease when they suffer from heart attack, a stroke or when they die so men should think of the erectile dysfunction warning as a wakeup call to get healthy.
