A recent survey conducted by The Female Experience of Men's Attitudes to Life Events and Sexuality or FEMALES for short was trying to quantify the sexual attitude, belief and experiences of women whose men suffered from erectile dysfunction. Nearly 300 women were given a questionnaire to answer and the women were chosen from the United States, Brazil, and 5 EU countries. The survey was keen to show the link between the women's attitude to erectile dysfunction and the chance of the man getting treatment for his ED problem.
The results suggest that the attitude to getting help for ED are couple-based. Males who have erectile dysfunction and know that the problem is upsetting his sexual partner sexually and otherwise will very often get treatment for the ED. The study also drew the conclusion that if the woman percieved that her partner's erectile dysfunction was related to other medical issues or that ED treatment is generally a positive thing, the man was increasingly likely to get help for the disease.
If the perception of the woman was that she knew very little about erectile dysfunction or that she believed that the man would be able to perform with another woman then they were less likely to actually get help for the problem. The same was found for those women who thought that the erectile dysfunction was because of stress or psychological issues. The lack of information and knowledge was the key factor for couples not seeking treatment. Other responses from females whose partners didn't go and get help were the ones that thought that doctors were not the people to talk to, or those that thought that erectile dysfunction medications were dangerous.
The study's overall conclusion is that erectile dysfunction is very much both partners problem and that a good attitude from the man and the women is necessary for a good solution. The man must be aware that an erectile dysfunction problem affects of the well being of the female too and the women should also consider that their own perception of the ED problem will affect the outcome of seeking help. Talking about the erectile dysfunction is vital and treating the problem as a joint one.
