and suffer from what is sometimes nicknamed ‘Brewers Droop’

'Tis the Christmas season and while we make merry and good cheer the odd tipple or two (or three) may be in order to help along the festive spirit. There is no question that the average alcohol consumption for men and women increases over Christmas and New Year period and while we don’t want to be party poopers at Ukmedix News it is important that individuals who drink are aware of the effects that alcohol can have on their sexual function and their overall health.

Drinking Dilemmas At Xmas

Most people know that if men drink a lot they can lose erectile function and suffer from what is sometimes nicknamed ‘Brewers Droop’ however excessive alcohol consumption over a prolonged period of time can cause erectile dysfunction to occur even when alcohol blood levels are returned to normal. Alcoholics who have abused alcohol for a number of years can damage the penile nerves which are required to maintain good erectile function. Not only this but increased alcohol consumption can cause heart disease which has a clear link to erectile dysfunction.

Increased alcohol consumption is also known to cause depression and feelings of paranoia and uneasiness the next day. This is sometimes nicknamed the ‘Beer Blues’ or ‘The Fear’. Psychologists have also explored the link between depression and erectile dysfunction and have shown that while it is obvious that erectile dysfunction can make a man get depressed it should also be noted that at the same time the depression itself can be the cause of erection problems. Good erectile function in men is linked to confidence and self esteem and therefore depression can have a detrimental effect and be responsible for impotence.

Women should also be aware that they are not immune from the effect of alcohol on their sexual function too. Some researchers have shown that women who drink to excess may suffer from irregular menstruation and even bring on a premature menopause. So while we hope you have a merry Christmas at Ukmedix News just watch out and keep an eye on your alcohol consumption. Try to have a few dry days and make sure you eat healthily and get some exercise too.
