The medical link between erectile dysfunction, depression and heart disease has been confirmed by Italian researchers at the University of Florence. Their study involved the use of a discreet questionnaire with more than 2,300 men agreeing to take part in the survey at a sexual health clinic.  As well as the questionnaires all of the men underwent physical examinations, blood tests and ultrasound scans which measured the blood flow to their penis.

The study which continued looking at the medical data of the men for around four years saw a clear link between depression and a greater chance of heart problems.  Ukmedix News has published the results of numerous studies which also show the link between erectile dysfunction and heart health. Men suffering from depression should be aware of the dangers that their condition can pose to their sexual health and should also note that erectile dysfunction could lead to them becoming even more depressed as a result.

The researchers from the University of Florence said that while their study was a small study, they still felt it was medically relevant and that sexual health doctors who administer prescriptions for men with erectile dysfunction should consider that their patients could be also suffering from depression. They also noted that all men who showed depressive symptoms should also be screened for heart disease.

While the vast majority of erectile dysfunction is caused by blood flow problems to the penile artery men should not underestimate the dangers of low self esteem and depression too good erectile function. Men who are under a lot of stress and very anxious are also in a higher risk category for suffering from erectile dysfunction.
