Good sleep has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve weight loss

A study has highlighted the importance of getting good sleep to improve erectile function in men and has shown that treatment for severe sleep apnea can lead to better performance in the bedroom. The research which was done at the Dept of Otorhinolaryngology in the Istanbul Education and Research Hospital in Turkey looked at whether treatment for severe sleep apnea using Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy was effective and whether it had a big impact on erectile function.

Forty men who suffered from Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome were put into two different groups and given extensive questionnaires to fill in regarding their erectile function and were also subjected to routine medical tests to evaluate the extent of their sleeping problem, erectile dysfunction and psychological makeup. The first group was given treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy whereas the second group was given an antidepressant medication. The researchers said that after a month of routine Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy the improvement in erectile function was statistically significant and that all of the men responded positively to it.

The study which was only done as a preliminary test to see whether there was any link between sleep and erectile function should lead to further and more extensive clinical studies being done in this area. Good sleep has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve weight loss both of which are also directly linked to erectile dysfunction. Men must not underestimate the importance of good sleep in making sure that they are healthy in both body and mind. In order to maintain good erectile function you need to need to be relaxed, fit and healthy and a regular amount of good sleep every single night can be a much bigger part of your overall health plan then you may well have believed.
