Best Selling Author Says No To Free Viagra

Every now and again a discussion crops up in the news about the issue of free prescriptions of Viagra on the UK National Health Service or on the American health care system and many people claim that it is extremely unfair that public money is spent giving some men erectile dysfunction drugs instead of being used for more worthwhile medical care.

There is this idea among some people that Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are frivolous drugs which are given to men purely so that they enjoy themselves and have fun having sex with whomever they please. The idea that taxpayers are subsidising the sex lives of some men is they say is an abuse of the state health system and should be stopped immediately.
Just recently the best-selling author Terry Pratchett has been making headlines by saying that it is unacceptable that the Aricept drug which slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease is not available to all patients in England on the National Health Service whereas Viagra is. He said it was outrageous that a serious illness such as Alzheimer's should be deemed less serious than erectile dysfunction and that the Aricept drug was only given to patients when the Alzheimer's illness had progressed considerably.
At Ukmedix News we cannot claim to be experts on whether the Aricept drug should be given to all Alzheimer's patients but one thing that we can be certain of is that the medical condition of erectile dysfunction can be an extremely serious illness and should not be underestimated. Erectile dysfunction can cause severe psychological distress and depression which can lead men to destroy relationships, treat all those around them badly and ultimately destroy lives.
There is no doubt that some men do abuse erectile dysfunction medication but since the National Health Service limits the amount of Viagra that it will prescribe freely and requires that any man who is prescribed it is subjected to a proper examination only those men who really need it get the impotence medications for free.
Another thing that you should be aware of is that the National Health Service will only prescribe Viagra for free if it is associated with other serious medical problems such as cancer of the prostate, diabetes or multiple sclerosis. In certain cases were severe mental distress can be proved doctors are also allowed to prescribe Viagra on the National Health Service.
Terry Pratchett is a very wealthy man and presumably has never suffered from erectile dysfunction or has been able to get easy access to Viagra, Cialis or Levitra privately. If he was more aware of the suffering that erectile dysfunction can cause some men he might not disagree with the NHS decision to prescribe small amounts of Viagra to men who really need it.
