Andropause And Testosterone

Written by Stuart Stevens | Monday, 21 August 2006

Ukmedix has seen recent reports that show that as many as twenty five million men between 40 & 55 years old suffer from the male equivalent of menopause known as andropause. The andropause condition is characterised by lowering levels of the all important male testosterone hormone as the onset of aging hits them.

Many health professional say that the male andropause is just the male equivalent menopause but that is not really correct as menopause is directly related to a sudden end of a woman fertility whereas the andropause is a slow and gradual decline in the fertility of a man. The onset of andropause does no signify the end of a man's reproductive capacity but just a lessening of it. Men who suffer from andropause report that sometimes they suffer from erectile dysfunction and that they are lethargic and lack energy.

Andropause is not the only thing than can cause a lowering in the levels of testosterone as things like heart and lung disease or depression and obesity can cause the same effect. This means that it is imperative to get a proper consultation before assuming that you are suffering from andropause as the condition might actually not be present and something more serious could be the problem.

The main symptoms of andropause are a lower libido, erectile dysfunction, fatigue lack of physical strength and a reduced muscle mass. Men also have reported a reduction in bone mass and memory power and say that they find it hard to concentrate too. Some lucky men do not get significant reductions in their levels of testosterone when they age and they should therefore not experience andropause but most men do suffer from it to some degree.

Men who suffer from bad cases of andropause can have testosterone replacement therapy that has been shown to work and to increase libido as well as to increase bone density. The testosterone can also help with muscle mass and boost energy levels.
