Shampooing And Hair Loss...

Written by Richard Simmons | Wednesday, 25 June 2008

It is perfectly natural to lose around 100 hairs every single day

It’s a bit of an old wives tale but it’s one that is often repeated. Many people think that if you wash your hair very often you can cause dandruff on your scalp which in turn will make you go bald. People often say that they notice that their hair is coming out when they wash it and they find clumps of hair in the plug hole.

Shampooing And Hair Loss...

Well in a nutshell the answer is that shampooing your hair does not cause baldness. The reason why hair loss is apparent when shampooing is that you are just washing out hairs which have already fallen out due to some other reason. It is perfectly natural to lose around 100 hairs every single day and therefore it is expected that you will find hair coming out when you shampoo or comb your hair.

Another factor to consider is that dandruff in itself does not cause hair loss but can aggravate an existing hair loss condition in a number of ways. Firstly if you have severe dandruff it means that the skin on your scalp is not healthy and this may very slightly weaken already weak hair follicles. Another thing to consider is that people who have dandruff often scratch their heads repeatedly, (even in their sleep) which pulls out more hairs and further aggravates the scalp.

If you suffer from dandruff and you are experiencing male pattern baldness or any type of hair loss you should really use a special dandruff shampoo to keep your scalp in good condition. If you are suffering from male pattern baldness you must remember it is a genetic condition which will not be cured by shampooing. Male pattern baldness is caused by a build up of a compound called Dihydrotestosterone and you cannot cure the problem unless you get rid of this compound in your scalp.

The hair loss drug Propecia which is manufactured by the drug company Merck does exactly that and prevents the build up of Dihydrotestosterone so that it cannot attack healthy hair follicles.
