Male Pattern Balding Myths Still Believed By Many

continue to believe old wives tales concerning male pattern baldness

It is amazing how gullible some men and women are and how they continue to believe old wives tales concerning the problem of male pattern baldness. If you speak to a group of people around 50 percent of them still think that you inherit male pattern baldness from your mother’s side of the family and that you can’t inherit it from your father’s side. This is completely untrue and you only need to look around at people you know who are suffering from male pattern baldness to confirm this.

Male Pattern Balding Myths Still Believed By Many

Another story which is also bandied around is that excessive masturbation or sexual activity can increase rates of male pattern baldness. This again has been conclusively proven not to be the case time and time again yet nevertheless people still repeat this myth.

Male Pattern Baldness is only caused by a genetic disposition to the condition which is ingrained in your DNA and there is not much that you can do about that. Some men are lucky that they have the genes which mean they retain a full head of hair well into old age and other men are unlucky in that they start to lose their hair when they are in their early 20's.

If you are experiencing some male pattern baldness the only method of dealing with it is to get medication which prevents the genetic process of the build up of dihydrotestosterone in the scalp. The only medications on the market today which actually do this are the medicine Propecia and the medicine minoxidil.

The hair loss drug Propecia functions by lowering the levels of dihydrotestosterone forming in the scalp and in clinical testing has shown to be effective to some extent in most men. Minoxidil is a topically applied medication which helps to boost the growth of hair follicles in the scalp but does not actually deal with the problem of the buildup of Dihydrotestosterone in the scalp. Some hair loss experts recommend using both Propecia and Minoxidil at the same time.

If you use anything else other than these two medications to treat male pattern baldness you will be wasting your time.
