Men should go for a hair transplant as a last resort after having tried Propecia

The International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery has published research that shows that there is a definite trend towards younger men and women seeking hair transplant surgery. According to their figures over 225,000 hair restoration surgeries were done worldwide in 2006, representing a 1/3 increase in numbers from the year 2004.

Hair Transplants On The Rise

One of the reasons why so many more people are going for hair restoration surgery these days is that the whole process is so much more sophisticated than it was say twenty years ago. Gone are the days when it was blatantly obvious that a man had had hair transplant surgery with unsightly plugs of hair scattered unevenly on his scalp. Today the hair transplant surgeons have perfected some techniques which mean that the surgery is completely unnoticeable except maybe to the professional eye. There is also a greater public knowledge about how hair transplants are carried out and this means that both men and women have more confidence in the process.

Hair transplant surgery is mainly confined to men however the ISHRS statistics show that more and more females are coming forward for the surgery. In 2004 only 11.4 percent of hair transplant surgeries were done on women however in 2006 this figure had risen to almost fourteen percent.

If you are considering hair transplant surgery the most important thing to remember is that you go to a well respected hair transplant surgeon. There is nothing worse than a bad and unprofessional hair transplant and you will look far worse with a bad hair transplant then if you are bald. You cannot deceive photographed of previous work they have done and even speak to previous patients to be sure that they know what they are doing.

Men should only go for a hair transplant as a last resort after having tried the hair loss drugs minoxidil and Propecia. Propecia is the world’s most effective hair loss medication and is made by the drug company Merck.
