Ukmedix has been looking at a survey that was recenlty conducted in the UK that shows that over 4 million people in the UK suffer from such intense stress and anxiety that they suffer from hair loss as a result. The survey claims that around 10% of all adults suffer from hair loss or premature balding due to being over stressed.
The figures also show that females suffer more than men and nearly 3 women in 4 said that they suffered from stress compared to 59% of men of men saying that they were stressed. The survey was carried out by interviewing around three thousand men and women in the UK. It seems that the modern woman is under a great deal of stress as she is expected to work these days as well as keep the home, children and her husband or partner happy at the same time.
Women who are of the ages between 35 to 45 were seen to be the most likely to be stressed and also to have stress related health problems like eczema, persistent migraines or elevated blood pressure. Interestingly it was seen that 12% of females were aware that stress actually made their hair fall, whereas only 8% of men said the same thing.
The type of hair loss associated with stress is called alopecia areata in which bald patches occur on the scalp in different places and if the stress is severe it can eventually lead to alopecia totalis (scientific term for total baldness) which was made famous recently by the UK TV presenter Gail Porter. Severe stress has been known to put the human body out of synch and balance and this in turn harms the immune system, and people who have stress also get insomnia and hair loss that continues for a long time and doesn't go away until they learn to get rid of the stress.
