It is commonly stated that swimming in pools with a high level of chlorine could end up discolouring your hair and even making it thinner. A number of research projects that have looked at regular male swimmers and compared them to men who never swim in chlorinated swimming pools have seen that there is no difference in the incidence of male pattern baldness.

However the effects of chlorine on the skin and the hair should not be underestimated and if you are going to swim in chlorinated pools everyday it is important that you make sure you shampoo your hair when you get out of the pool and if possible wear a bathing cap to keep your hair dry. The chlorine in a swimming pool will only aggravate the existing effects of male pattern baldness but will not actually cause it.
If you are beginning to see thinning hair on your scalp it is important that you get treatment for it and at the same time make an extra effort to keep your scalp and hair clean and healthy at all times. Chlorine can also aggravate the scalp and made it itchy which means that people will scratch their heads more leading to hair loss. If you have an irritated scalp when you go to bed you may scratch a lot at night in your sleep which will cause you to shed more hair.
Male pattern baldness is caused by a genetic condition which is completely normal. Male pattern baldness can be reversed by using the hair loss drug Propecia which prevents the build up of Dihydrotestosterone in the scalp which is its main cause. Propecia is a prescription medication and is made by the pharmaceutical company Merck. You can find out more about the hair loss drug Propecia on the Ukmedix web site.
