Dealing With Hair Loss

Written by Stuart Stevens | Thursday, 24 August 2006

As many as 50 million men in America suffer from male pattern balding which is by far the most obvious cause of hair loss due to the reason that it is genetic. I some rare cases men get male pattern baldness while they are still teenagers but it is more common by the time a man attains the age of 30 getting more prevalent as men age. In fact 40% of  men have some visible hair loss by the time they reach the age of 35 and by the age of 60 it rise to 65%.

America is a country that takes great care in its appearance and some of its citizens are prepared to go to extra efforts to make sure that they look good and young all of the time. This has created a hair restoration industry in the United States that is worth hundreds of millions each year and grows all the time. Hair loss is obviously more distressing in younger men but even older men find the process worying and take action to stop it.

Recent scientific advances now mean that men who get hair loss have some treatments and remedies that can actually make a real difference to hair loss and are not just some oils and ointments that give false hopes to balding men. For example minoxidil is a medicine that when applied to the scalp will really help with preventing the formation of the hair follicle destroying DHT. The minoxidil works differently on different men but it may slow down hair loss in some men and with other it can actually help to regrow the hair on the scalp.

The other good hair loss remedy that is used by millions of men is Propecia. Propecia and minoxidil actually have the same process but just in different ways as they both stop the formation of DHT on the head. The advantage of Propecia is that it is administered orally by a pill daily so that you don't have to use liquids and pipettes to apply it to the scalp.
