Fascinating new research done at the University of Bonn in Germany has located and identified a distinct gene that causes a certain type of baldness which could open up new avenues of treatment for men affected by this genetic condition. The lead scientist Regina Betz along with her colleagues at the University of Bonn has located the gene P2RY5 which initiates the rare and unusual type of hair loss called Hypotrichosis simplex.

Professor Betz said that while Hypotrichosis simplex is a very rare type of hair loss understanding is genetic mechanisms could nevertheless help scientists come up with remedies for all types of hair loss including male pattern baldness. Hypotrichosis simplex which is a genetically inherited type of hair loss strikes both men and women and usually occurs during childhood. By studying a number of families in Saudi Arabia over six year time frame the researchers were able to locate the particular gene that activates the condition.
The hair loss industry is huge and it is estimated that it is worth over a billion dollars a year in America. The Food and Drug Administration in America however estimate that most of this money goes on untested and unproven hair restoration treatments that have little or no effect.
At Ukmedix News we have seen how gullible men can be when they are faced with impending hair loss and often part with their money to anyone who promises them help. Men suffering from male pattern baldness should only try the hair loss remedy Propecia which is statistically the most successful male pattern baldness remedy on the market and also the topically applied medication minoxidil that also can produce some results.
If a company was able to get to the genetic root of male pattern baldness and was able to come up with a remedy to prevent the genetic progress of the condition they could make billions of dollars overnight.
The Propecia hair loss medication works by counteracting the negative effects of Dihydrotestosterone which builds up in the scalp and causes the male pattern baldness but a completely genetic remedy would be even more effective than Propecia.
It is likely that over the next decade a genetic remedy for male pattern baldness will make its way onto the market.
