The use of untested medicines is very dangerous...

In the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, The Cyprus Dermatology Association has been putting out warnings about the number of scams in operation that prey on men who are worried about their hair loss. Apparently in Cyprus there are lots of fraudulent doctors and therapists who say that they can cure all male pattern baldness but in fact sometimes even make it worse.

There have even been reports of some men suffering from weight gain, erectile dysfunction and in some extreme cases even cancer after using fraudulent medication. The Cyprus Dermatology Association decided to initiate a week in which they will try to educate the public about male pattern baldness and also try to ensure that they only use properly tested and approved medicines that have been subjected to clinical testing. All over the world there are people who claim that they can cure male pattern baldness but there are very few clinically tested medicines that have been properly shown to be able to have an effect on the genetic process that causes the baldness in the first place.

Dr Constantinos Demetriou Said that it was important that all medical qualifications of doctors saying that they could cure hair loss must be checked and that the use of untested medicines was very dangerous. There has been a large rise in the number of court cases involving men who have paid out large sums of money to have their hair restored and have in fact had terrible results.

The Cyprus Dermatology Association noted that the hair loss medication made by the pharmaceutical company Merck namely Propecia was a very effective medication and has been shown to help men in well over 80 percent of all cases. Over 4 million men use Propecia in the world today and the numbers are rising as the drug’s fame spreads.  Another medication that was singled out for approval was the minoxidil liquid that is applied directly to the scalp.
