Hair weaving is the art of braiding and weaving hair to the root of hair follicles that are healthy in order for it to grow next to the good and healthy hair. This can give the look of a healthy growth rather than a thin weak growth. Other name for this procedure are hair-integration and hair-intensification. For people with thin hair this can be useful and can be facilitated in hair salons and so requires no complicated hospital visits.
Hair weaving works by the process of sewing 2 or 3 strands of hair to the root area on the scalp with some of the original existing hair being woven together to facilitate the anchoring of the added hair. The procedure needs more attention as every 6 weeks the natural hair will grow out. It is a complicated method of getting hair. It is very time consuming and can actually cause stress and weakness to the existing hair follicles that now are supporting more hair. Shampooing and combing the hair should be done gently, so that the weaving is not damaged or affected.
The AMLC (American Hair Loss Council) say that patients need to be sure of this method as it can cause more hair loss. They advise a patch test first before the complete work is undertaken in order to ensure there are no adverse effects. They point out that while this is a less traumatic operation than hair transplant surgery it should be used with care and plenty of good advice.
