Trichophyton Tonsurans Warning

Ukmedix had learnt of a rare but very contagious skin fungal infection that has been located in the UK in a number of cities. The fungal disease, called fungal infection scalp ringworm is characterised by an itchy and scaly scalp along with severe hair loss which could be of a permanent nature of it is not treated immediately. This particular type of ringworm passes easily between humans and The British Skin Foundation noted that the number of infections were increasing rapidly in certain locations in the UK. Inner city locations in London, Bristol and Birmingham have been the hardest hit with the most reported infections.

This type of ring worm was previously mainly found in dogs and cats and human cases were almost unheard of but the organism has now mutated to a new fungus called Trichophyton tonsurans that can jump from human to human very easily and it can therefore spread quickly in schools and in homes. The disease has been seen to be mostly prevalent in children of Afro Caribbean descent.

The British Association of Dermatologists said the numbers had increased massively and the new type of the fungus was found to be present in ninety percent of cases. The problem with this fungus was that it caused severe hair loss which could cause emotional distress to the children who got it and would disrupt their lives. To prevent the hair loss it is essential that the cases are dealt with quickly and that the oral medicines as well as the shampoos and creams are used.
