Summer Hair Loss

Not many people know that in different seasons and in different temperatures the effect on hair loss changes. It is commonly known that using heat products on hair such as curlers and hair dryers can dry out hair and thus cause damage and hair breakages. Hair needs a natural moisure contect to be fully healthy and lustrous.
In summer seasons and in hot countries where the sun beats down on your hair it is important know that your hair is drying out and that you must try and protect it and compensate for this with moisturising conditioners.
Excess heat on the scalp can also cause more fungal infections and irritated skin on the head. The heat form the sun can cause the head and scalp to sweat and therefor the scalp becomes dirty and this aggravates fungal disease on the head. Fungus growing on the head can cause itchiness and th e subsequent scratching can seriously damage the roots of hair follicles causing hair loss and redness on the scalp.
For this reason hair loss in summer can increase and steps must be taken to minimise it. Research has shown that the rate of hair loss can increase by as much as a third in hot seasons which can be worrying for people who feel they are losing their hair at a faster rate than it is growing back. There is a common myth that hair colour loss is aggravated in the summer sun too, but this is not the case as the pigment is controlled by cells that are not effected by the heat.
In summer it is important to spend double the time on hair care and try and stay out of the direct sun all the time. For example a moisturising shampoo and conditioner can keep the moisture balance at the right level and not using colour and other products in your hair is also a good idea. Water in a chlorine swimming pool can dry hair so you should shampoo after using these pools. Be concious of the effect that the sun is having on your hair and scalp and you should maintain a healthy head and hair.
