Dysmorphophobia is the condition that describes an intense dislike of a part of your outward appearance and a man who becomes obsessed with his hair loss is therefore suffering from some level of dysmorphophobia. The stress associated with going bald for some men is intesnse and distressing and can cause lack of confidence and low self esteem. However balding men need not worry too much and should console themselves with the fact that research and scientific evidence shows that balding men have greater amounts of testosterone and therefore are more virile than those with a full head of hair.
The two most tested and sure to work hair loss treatments are Rogaine and Propecia. They both have been given the green light by the FDA and the EMEA and are backed up by clinical evidence as to their effectiveness. The active ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil and it stops the formation of DHT in the scalp which is in itself a by product of testosterone the male hormone. Propecia (finasteride) also stops the formation of DHT but internally as opposed to externally as it is taken in the form of a tablet once daily. Using both these drugs at the same time has been shown to give good results too.
A more extreme method of regaining your hair is to opt for a hair transplant. If this procedure is done well by a skilled hair transplant specialist good results can ensue, however a poor hair transplant can give terrible and odd looking results. New inventions in the realm of hair transplantation have improved things dramatically over the last few years and a new follicle extracting unit that is being patented can now move individual hairs around the head producing excellent results. Ukmedix advises that people speak to trained trichologists and doctors before embarking on an hair transplant surgery.
