Hair loss and a dissapearing hair line is a worry for men and women. For a man it is socially acceptable to go bald at a certain age but for a woman hair loss is very stressful at any age. Statistics in the UK show that hair loss affects 25% of women and as many as 60% of men over the age of 50 and this hair loss always effects self-esteem and confidence.
The biggest factor that comes into play with hair loss is your genes. Many people believe that if your mother's father is bald you will also be bald at the same age, but this is false as the hair loss gene can be inherited from both your mothers and fathers family. If you do get the hair loss gene deal with it quickly and effectively and try to slow down the balding process.
Without a doubt the two most effective methods of stopping hair loss are by using the drugs finasteride and minoxidil known comercially as Propecia and Rogaine. The have both been put through rigorous clinical testing in both the US and the EU and have been shown to work in most men and women. Propecia can't be used by women as it can harm the unborn child. They both work by blocking the hair follicle destroying compound known as DHT. Propecia is an internal medicine and comes in a tablet to be taken once daily. Rogaine is a topical liquid that must be applied to the scalp and comes in different strengths.
There are a number of other hair loss medications and some of the products could be good but alot of them will waste your money so be very discerning when looking at hair loss medication.
There is no real and definitive cure for baldness but slowing the process down is possible by living healthily and eating a balanced diet. Caring for your hair and scalp are all part of the process of slowing hair loss. Keep your hair short as it disguises hair loss better and no matter what, don't combover... you'll just look like an idiot.
