Two TV 'Gladiators' have teamed up in order to highlight prejudices surrounding the medical condition of alopecia and to raise awareness of how devastating it can be to sufferers.

Amazon and Warrior from the popular Sky One show Gladiators have not just been talking about it but even went as far as to undergo a six hour session of prosthetic make-up so that they could see how they looked without hair. The idea was that they would get a better idea of the reaction from other people to their complete hair loss, [which included eyebrows].
Amazon, or Zoe Williams as she is usually known said that for her the biggest shock was seeing herself without eyebrows because it changed the way her face looked. She said that if her hair loss had been permanent and not merely temporary she was sure that she would find it "very distressing". Amazon also spoke about the considerable adverse psychological impact that alopecia can have.
Amazon and Warrior's photographs of themselves completely bald will be used by the BeBold charity which provides psychological assistance and medical care to sufferers of alopecia. The charity is more concerned with helping men, women and children who suffer complete baldness in the form of alopecia areata or alopecia totalis as opposed to men suffering from the natural genetic male pattern baldness.
Nevertheless while many individuals consider male pattern baldness to be a natural process it still causes huge psychological stress to men who experience it. There are some doctors who argue that all men especially younger men should get hair restoration treatments such as Propecia not just because of its cosmetic benefits but also because it prevents depression and lowered self esteem which in turn is bad for overall health.
Men should be conscious of the psychological harm that male pattern baldness can have on them and should never try to ignore it. One way of dealing with the problem which we have seen many times at Ukmedix News is denial. This denial can only continue for a short time before the hair loss becomes very noticeable and ultimately all the hair falls out. Men needs to deal with male pattern baldness head on and deal with it right now!
