The actress Gail Porter whose battle with the disease alopecia areata caused her great stress and anxiety is finally growing back to her hair! Gail who has been suffering from this rare type of alopecia for almost four years however has become so used to having a bald head that she said that she is going to shave it.

Gail has been a real strength and inspiration for other people who suffer from alopecia areata and after the initial shock came out fighting, proudly showed off her bald head. Alopecia areata is a condition in which the human body’s natural immune system turns on itself and attacks hair follicles believing them to be unwanted attachments.
It is not exactly sure what causes this condition but it often appears in very stressed individuals, and normally aggravates the stress which in turn aggravates the hair loss.
Gail also commented on the fact that she had become so used to not having hair that she felt that she just couldn’t be bothered to deal with looking after her hair anymore. She described straightening it and blow drying as a complete waste of time.
It is important that men and women understand that the type of hair loss that Gail suffers from is completely different from the type of hair loss that men suffer from in the form of male pattern baldness.
What Gail has is an unusual immune condition whereas male pattern baldness which millions of men suffer from in the UK is in fact perfectly natural and normal. If men suffer from male pattern baldness it does not mean that they ill but merely experiencing what they genes are designed to do.
The only reason why male pattern baldness can be classified as an illness is because it causes stress and anxiety and undermines confidence and wellbeing in men. In some cases it can lead to depression and other psychiatric problems and that is why doctors recommend in some cases that men get proper medical help such as getting a prescription for Propecia.

I think she looks much better with no hair and she know that! I hope we have more women with shaved heads in the future!

if 50% of women shaved their hair, then there would be no worry if it happened because everyone would accept it.
