Can Lifting Weights Cause Hair Loss

should men who workout consider stopping as a way of maintaining their hair?
There is plenty of hearsay around which suggests that working out in the gym and building up big muscles could accelerate and even cause male pattern baldness. Is there any truth in this, and if there is should men who workout consider stopping as a way to maintaining their hair?

can lifting weights cause hair loss

Well, firstly the science behind the link between working out and hair loss is that pumping iron in the gym produces testosterone and a derivative of this testosterone, namely dihydrotestosterone is what causes the natural genetic process of male pattern baldness. Some people therefore argue that bigger muscles lead to more testosterone and therefore more hair loss but there is no definite scientific proof of this.

The first thing to remember is that male pattern baldness will occur in some men and not in others. Some of the men who suffer from male pattern baldness at an early age will have no muscle and never work out in a gym whereas other men who are gym freaks and lift huge weights will have a full head of hair all their lives.

At Ukmedix News we can understand why some men may think that working out will increase their male pattern baldness but as of yet there is no evidence and our advice is to ignore it completely. The idea that your strategy to maintain your hair is to not exercise is ridiculous. In fact one of the best things to do if you are losing your hair is to get down to the gym and bulk up a bit of muscle so that you look good despite your hair loss. Your hair loss will be far less significant to your overall appearance if you are trim, slim and covered in muscle.

The only proven way to deal with the dihydrotestosterone which kills hair follicles is to use the male pattern baldness drug Propecia which can help to reverse this natural genetic process.
