Amber Talks About Her Baldness

Alopecia areata is an extremely rare and complex disease

While the majority of hair loss is a male problem in the form of male pattern baldness, in some rare cases women also suffer from hair loss which is normally in the form of an illness called alopecia areata. This type of hair loss occurs at any age and obviously can be extremely distressing to women. A man can console himself by knowing that many of his friends and colleagues will also be losing hair but for women losing hair is soul destroying and can completely change their lives.

Amber Talks About Her Baldness

A case in point is a brave woman called Amber Jean Rowan whose life was turned upside down when her beautiful long blond hair started to fall out. What made it even more difficult for her was that her appearance was also directly connected to her work as she was a cat walk model. To make sure that she kept getting work from her agents, Morgan the Agency she had to resort to using a wig.

But the real problem of her hair loss was not just the physical appearance problem but the fact that for a woman to lose her hair she often loses her identity and this comes with a complete lack of confidence and self esteem which can lead to some long term psychological problems.

The good news for Amber Jean Rowan is that now her hair has started to grow back and she is able to dispense with her wigs except when she is on the catwalk. She hopes that her hair will become long again and that she will be able to dispose of them completely.

Alopecia areata is an extremely rare and complex disease which is caused by a person’s immune system which overreacts and attacks hair follicles. There’s very little that can be done if you begin to suffer from this condition except to try and relax and live healthily as the condition is often triggered off by stressful events.

The most famous recent sufferer of alopecia areata was Gail Porter who sported a completely bald head until recently when her hair started to grow back.

How did her hair grow back, is there anything women can take or apply to their heads? I am thirty five and have four children and am beginning to lose my hair.

Hi, Veronica did you just have a baby? Sometimes after having a baby womens hair gets thin. This is normal so don't worry about it as it should grow back normally soon.

I have lost patches and then most of my hair. Since February it is starting to regrow. Fascinating process in both directions!
