Crestor from UKMedix
Crestor is a medication from Astra-Zeneca used in the treatment of high cholesterol.
Cholesterol is the build up of a waxy, fat-like substance among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells. A high amount of “bad” (LDL) cholesterol, which is produced by the liver, can cause a condition called Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and may also be a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attack or stroke.
Crestor (Rosuvastatin calcium) is a medication that works on the liver to control the cholesterol in the body. The liver is where most of the cholesterol in our bodies is created and it works by creating cholesterol while you are sleeping. For this reason Crestor should be taken at night.
Crestor works by inhibiting a particular enzyme, present in the liver, which is indispensable in order to create the “bad” (LDL) cholesterol in the body. When the enzyme is blocked the level of the (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) in the blood reduce dramatically while raising that levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL).
Crestor can help to reduce the chances of developing hardening of the arteries as well as reducing the chances of experiencing a heart attack or stroke. To get the most benefit from Crestor it is recommended to keep a diet low in saturated fats and to exercise regularly.
CAUTION
It is important to note that if you have any liver problems you should consult with your doctor before taking Crestor.
