In an unexpected move from the manufacturers of Cialis, ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly have made the announcement that they are hoping to get permission from the EMEA in Europe and eventually the FDA in America for a once a day version of Cialis. The once a day version of Cialis will probably boost sales and add to the popularity of Cialis as an erectile dysfunction medication.

The present version of Cialis is popular because it can improve erectile function for as much as 36 hours and it comes in doses of 10 to 20mg. The active compound in Cialis is tadalafil and the new proposal seeks to allow the sale of Cialis in lower doses of between 2.5 to 5 mg. The idea is that regular erectile dysfunction drug users would be able to take a small daily dose of the drug whether they were planning on having sex that day or not and so they would be ready for sexual intercourse and able to perform whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Cialis once a day would be perfect for older men who are still sexually active and don't want to have to plan ahead before each sexual encounter. The advantages for the Lilly ICOS consortium is that having a daily tablet will produce more cash revenues and the company is hopeful that provided the new version of Cialis is approved their revenues could grow by over 50%. It is likely that only a few men will go for the daily treatment but these men will be big yearly spenders and will really boost the Cialis sales.

Erectile dysfunction is big business with estimates of the number of impotence sufferers ranging from 150million to 200million worldwide and many companies were keen to get in on the act after the success of Viagra. Cialis is the second most popular erectile dysfunction drug in the world and is fast stealing market share from Viagra. Cialis was launched in 2003 and now generates nearly ¾ billion dollars in sales yearly.

The Cialis Once A Day is aimed to be for sale in the EU and America at the end of 2007 and it could increase sales of Cialis by a third over the following 3 years according to company estimates. Lilly ICOS is busy with clinical trials to look at the effect of the drug being administered each day in smaller doses. Cialis has also been shown to be effective in treating hypertension, prostate problems and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and the results of the aforementioned clinical tests will be used to show the long term safety of Cialis use.

The Once a Day version of Cialis will heat up the battle for market share of the multi billion pound erectile dysfunction industry and differentiate it from rival drugs Viagra and Levitra.
