Cialis Not To Be Sold In India

This undermines the efforts that legitimate drug companies make...

In America a decision has been taken by the management of the drug giant Eli Lily not to sell the second best selling erectile dysfunction medication in the world namely Cialis in India.  This decision was not taken lightly and was a result of many years of negotiation with the government of India about copyright laws and other issues.

Cialis Not To Be Sold In India

India is not the only country in the world where there is scant regard for international agreements on copyright and other rules that protect the intellectual property of drug manufacturers.  It was felt by Eli Lilly that they have little chance of protecting Cialis in India and in any case the drug is already copied so much there that they would be merely competing against cheaper copies of their own medication.

A drug firm that copies Cialis can produce the erectile dysfunction drug much cheaper than Eli Lilly can as they have not had to incur millions of pounds of research and development that makes these drugs possible. The international community is getting more and more frustrated with these countries that produce illegal and counterfeit drugs cheaply because they say that this undermines the efforts that legitimate drug companies make.

On the other side of the coin countries like India argue that they cannot afford the higher prices that western drug companies charge for their medications and that they are forced to copy the drugs in order to help the local population. Cialis is unique in that it is the only erectile dysfunction drug available on the market today that works for more than four hours. The effective life of a Cialis pill is 36 hours and thus in some countries it is known as the weekend drug. Cialis must not be considered to be second best to the Viagra drug as many people say that they find it better and that because it lasts for so long it means that they are able to have more spontaneous sexual relationships as opposed to planning exactly when they are going to have sex.
