It seems that these days you can blame everything on your genes. With rapid advances in science which have identified genetic mutations which increase the susceptibility of obesity, hair loss, and premature ejaculation just to name some, it doesn't surprise us at Ukmedix News that now scientists can show that certain genes are likely to make it more difficult for you to quit smoking!

In fact, scientists say that they have identified three specific genetic mutations which are more prevalent in those people who have struggled to quit smoking. The researchers looked at the DNA of over 140,000 individuals from three different clinical studies and saw that very often the actual desire to quit smoking was directly correlated to certain genetic structures.

The research which was led by Professor Kari Stefansson from the deCODE genetics laboratory based in in Reykjavik, Iceland was published in the clinical journal Nature Genetics. It may be that in the future when you go to see your doctor he will make you undergo a genetic test to see whether you have any of the genetic variants which are likely to make it very difficult for you to quit smoking and warn you about them.

There is no doubt that some people find quitting smoking far more difficult than others and this can be ascertained by simply talking to a group of smokers. Some people report that they smoked for years before effortlessly stopping one day whereas others talk about how they struggled for years, and still struggle to stay away from cigarettes.

For those men and women who find smoking extremely difficult to quit a drug called Champix produced by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer has been very effective in reducing psychological and physical cravings. However the best way to make sure that you never have any problems quitting smoking is never to start in the first place!
