What's The Plan Stan...

A phrase we came across the other day at Ukmedix News was, “If you aren’t planning to give up smoking, what exactly are you planning?” We felt that this was a particularly insightful way of looking at smoking because it highlights the fact that if you are not attempting to quit you should at least evaluate the consequences of continuing to smoke. The point being that by continuing to smoke you should be planning for a lifetime of health problems and an early death!

By focusing on the consequences of smoking makes your smoking habit unsustainable in the long term because there are too many reasons to quit. The only way you can continue to smoke is by putting yourself in denial about the dangers. Smokers choose to ignore statistics and common sense and instead focus on a few random statistics, (the friend’s grandmother who lived to 95 and who smoked is a favourite!)
It is extremely dangerous to focus on the wrong statistics because to put it plainly, it could kill you! The facts show that cigarette smoking is the number one reason that people suffer from preventable death and disease in the United Kingdom and just because your friend’s grandmother didn’t die early doesn’t mean that you won’t.
If you quit even for one year the chances of you suffering from heart disease drops hugely and after a decade your health should be back to your pre smoking days. The younger you quit smoking the less likely you are to die from a smoking related illness. Continuing to smoke in your thirties is when you really start to do permanent damage to your body.
So what exactly are you planning? Don’t wait until it’s too late and the damage is done, the time to act is right now.
