President Barack Obama better know that the world is watching him

Anyone who listened to the moving and inspiring speech made by President Barack Obama at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony might have thought that the man was actually perfect and that he couldn’t possibly have any hang-ups or vices. It will be reassuring however for millions of smokers to know that like them he struggles to keep cigarettes at bay and that he is a one-time heavy smoker who occasionally lapses under pressure.

President Obama has admitted to occasionally ‘bumming’ the odd cigarette now and then from friends and colleagues which is a dangerous thing if you are trying to quit smoking completely, as it ends up getting to the point where you owe your friends so many cigarettes that you have to go out and buy your own packet and thus you lapse back to bad habits.

There are different reports about how much Obama actually used to smoke at his peak with some people saying that he was a ‘packet and a half a day’ man and others including himself saying that he only smoked seven or eight daily. It is a known fact that people tend to massively underestimate the amount of cigarettes that they smoke and it is thought that when doctor ask somebody how much they smoke they halve the real amount.

President Obama has his wife to thank for encouraging him to quit smoking and he also now is under a lot of pressure from anti-smoking groups who say that he must set a good example to the American impressionable young public who will be looking to him for leadership and inspiration. The president of the American Legacy Foundation Ms. Cheryl Healton said that President Obama must make a specific effort to get some of the 43 million Americans who smoke to understand that smoking is dangerous for you and encourage them to quit.

President Barack Obama better know that the world is watching him not only to make sure that he runs America properly but that he also doesn’t light up a single cigarette in his term of office.
