There has been a lot of stuff written recently about how a very cheap smoking cessation medication which is sold in Eastern European countries could provide a very effective alternative to the more expensive smoking cessation medication Champix.

Following on from a study done by the University College of London involving 740 Polish smokers who were given either a placebo tablet or the smoking cessation medication cytisine or Tabex as it is known commercially it was seen that the drug was moderately effective.
According to results which were reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, 8.4 percent of the volunteers given the cytisine were still not smoking after a year whereas only 2.4 percent of the volunteers given the placebo tablets had not started again.
These results might seem pretty positive but are not as good as the statistics recorded for smoking cessation rates when using Champix [varenicline] which tend to be in the region of 20% to 25%. It should also be noted that Champix has been extensively tested not only by the European Union health authorities [EMEA] but also by the American Food and Drug Administration [FDA], whereas cytisine has not been put through the same scrutiny.
In a sense Cytisine is a similar drug to Champix in that it works on the brain and the side effects included psychiatric issues. At Ukmedix News we want to warn you however that not only is Cytisine banned from sale in the UK because it hasn't been properly tested here but that if you were to find a supplier in the UK the chances are you would be buying a fake version of the medication and there is no way to prove that you have the real thing.
Unless medications in the UK come with prescriptions you can't prove that they come from proper pharmacies and this could lead to serious health problems. At Ukmedix it is possible to check that your medication is genuine using the Pharmacheck system.
