Smoking Parents Need To Read This Before Preaching To Kids

Practice what you preach! If you are a parent and you are concerned about the health of your children and you want them not to smoke the first thing you have to do is make sure that you are smoke free yourself.

Don’t even try telling your children not to light up if you yourself smoke in front of them. If you follow the ‘do as I say and not as I do’ argument with your children not only will they lose respect for you but they may even despise your hypocrisy.
In fact at Ukmedix News we would advise smoking parents to do absolutely nothing about their children smoking because trying to enforce them not to do something which you do yourself is likely to be counterproductive. If you are a hardened smoker and you are in the grip of a chronic addiction and despite repeated attempts to quit you are unable to do so you should talk very frankly to your children about your predicament.
Explain to them that you hate setting a bad example to them but your smoking addiction is so bad that it controls you. Being honest and forthright will carry much more weight than trying to force them not to smoke. If your children can appreciate how powerful your addiction is they may understand that they could themselves get into the same position in the future and this may encourage them not to start or at least quit when young.
If you are trying to quit why not involve your children in your smoking cessation attempt and ask them for support and encouragement. Explain that without their help it will be much more difficult to give up completely and so that they can feel a certain amount of responsibility to helping you get smoke free.
