Smoking Can Make You Fat

At Ukmedix News we have always said the people who claim that they smoke in order not to put on weight are talking rubbish as it is a statistical fact that smokers are more likely to put on weight than non-smokers. A new survey coming into the newsroom from Australia has confirmed this once and for all.

The study that was done by a group of researchers at the University of South Wales and the University of Melbourne has seen that cigarettes can be responsible for the body actually storing an excess of fat. The research that was done using mice saw that when they were exposed to smoke from cigarettes they tended to store more fat on their bodies whether they were given a high fat feed or a low fat feed.
There are some other reasons why people who smoke tend to put on weight, such as the fact that smoking makes people lethargic and therefore less likely to get exercise, but this new research shows that smoking irrespective of diet or exercise could possibly make humans put on weight. There is definitely some truth about the fact that smokers often eat less and compensate by smoking but there is no doubt that being slightly overweight is far healthier than smoking. The researchers said that young females were the most likely to say that they could not quit smoking for fear of piling on the weight.
The research that was published by the American Journal of Physiology also included the hypothesis that people who smoke may well be losing muscle mass due to poorer arterial circulation.
When one considers the health risks of smoking the idea that you are just continuing with the habit purely to stop yourself putting on a few pounds is completely ridiculous. If you really decide to quit it is often a good idea to get exercise as this can reduce the cravings associated with the habit and also at the same time make sure that you do not put on weight should you start to eat more heavily.

I agree that smoking can makyou fat. I smoke, but i eat healthly and do plenty of exercise and i also no longer drink, however i am still porky. Ive managed to cut down to 3 or 4 cigs a day. I dont feel like eating more. I think the main reason smokers put on weight is because the liver get clogged with toxins and can no longer filter. This means the rubbish in processed foods, cosmetics and most things can be removed from the body, this will result in long term damage and weight gain. Hence why im stopping

nicotine impairs insulin levels from working properly. Then you become insulin resistant. Then you bloat. All true!

I was a 40 a day guy, and I started weight training, progress was very slow , when I stopped smoking after a few weeks when I went back to the gym progress was twice to three times faster due to increased breathing and much better circulation, so yeah I have to agree with the hole report, and the crap that blocks your arteries and it just keeps on building up, so u can't exercise as much and get tired quicker because the oxygen can't get to were its needed....I quit through personal choice not because its socially unacceptable these days, all the pressure on smokers to stop is unfair and ironically can have the opposite effect , but guys in my opinion this one is fact.

smoking simply makes you more hungry, and you don't control so much your apetite. It's easier stay slim if you don't smoke
