cigarette smoke greatly aggravated Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

New research has explained exactly why people who smoke are in considerably greater danger of dying or from becoming seriously ill from the effects of normal influenza viruses. The research done in America at the Yale University School of Medicine involving the use of lab mice saw that when cigarette smoke was combined with viral components much more serious damage was done to their airways when compared to the airways of mice who only received the virus alone. The researchers said the cigarette smoke greatly aggravated Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease as well as increasing the detrimental and harmful effects of influenza.

Scientific Proof Established For High Influenza Risk For Smokers

Professor Jack Elias said that the cigarette smoke also was linked to a bigger immune response from the lungs and that he and his team had studied this in detail and could explain the molecular pathways which were initiated. Research like this merely confirms what we all in a way know already. People who smoke tend to suffer from colds and influenza much more then people who don’t and statistics show that smokers are far more likely to be absent from work due to respiratory diseases of any kind.

There are hundreds of reasons why individuals should give up smoking and this research is just another clear sign of the damage that smoking can do. Smoking weakens the whole human body and makes it more susceptible to practically every single illness known to man.

Ukmedix News has written hundreds of articles on the dangers of smoking and these articles are used by individuals who are trying to quit to motivate and encourage them. Smokers who get seriously ill all feel incredibly stupid that they have ignored the risks of smoking and that they did not give up before.

This study on influenza and cigarette smoke was published in the respected Journal of Clinical Investigation
