One very effective strategy is the funeral strategy!

Are you the type of smoker who can go for days without touching a cigarette, and even hardly thinking about smoking but when faced with a social occasion you find it extremely difficult not to smoke and reckon that you will probably light up at some point.

Weddings and big parties are notorious for making people fail after many months or even years of not smoking. If you are concerned that you might smoke at one of these occasions you need to plan ahead and come up with a strategy to stay smoke free!

One very effective strategy is the funeral strategy! Whenever you get the urge to have a cigarette, just think of yourself lying in a coffin. Try and think of yourself in a hospital bed wheezing slowly as your lungs succumb to lung cancer. Visualizing the worst possible smoking related illnesses is extremely effective.

Utilizing your brain to help you quit smoking is always a good idea but you should not underestimate the power of your legs. There is nothing to stop you just walking. If you are surrounded by a group of smokers just go for a walk around the block, taking deep breaths of fresh air. Removing yourself from a situation of temptation is not difficult and is extremely effective. Try and hang out with the nonsmokers, do not go outside with the smokers because it will just get you into trouble.

You will find that if you have managed to go to one wedding or big party without smoking that the next one will be much much easier. You will also have the confidence of knowing that you have done it before and therefore that it is possible.

Do not have the odd puff of somebody elses cigarette and try and convince yourself that you are not really smoking because you are!

Plan your strategy, do not let this stupid habit get the better of you and kill you!
