The president elect of the Philippines Mr. Benigno Aquino has stated that he won't be quitting smoking despite pressure from health groups in the country who said that he should set a good example as the future president and quit his unhealthy habit for good.

Mr. Aquino's excuse for not quitting is typical of the hundreds of different excuses that people use to get out of facing the reality of the dangers of their smoking habit. His excuse was that he would be facing "a lot of pressure," and that he shouldn't add another "unnecessary pressure" because it could have a negative effect on his presidential decisions.
Mr. Aquino whose smokes more than twenty cigarettes everyday should just admit that he can't quit smoking because he is a chronic addict rather than making feeble excuses about his decision making power. He should also consider the pressure and likelihood of serious illness is much more of a threat to his competent decision making than the temporary withdrawal symptoms of smoking. If necessary he should get professional medical help to quit smoking in the form of medication, counseling or hypnotherapy.
He should also consider that he doesn't become President of the Philippines for another month and therefore he has loads of time to get over any stress and anxiety that quitting smoking may cause him. So Mr. Aquino what are you waiting for and what other feeble excuses do you have up your sleeve?
Incidentally the Philippines has just released legislation which means that all cigarette packets will have to display prominent labels warning of the dangers of smoking, and therefore what better opportunity would Mr. Aquino have to show that he is behind the health of the nation than by quitting right now!
