The drug company Pfizer has issued a statement saying that since the introduction of new hefty cigarette taxes in Japan the demand for its smoking cessation medication Champix has rocketed. Japan has comparatively cheap cigarettes as well as very relaxed anti-smoking regulations which has led to a high percentage of cigarette smokers in the nation. With the new tobacco taxes in Japan smoking cessation is becoming a number one priority for many men and women.

In fact Pfizer said that they had underestimated the huge demand for Champix following the new Japanese tobacco legislation and were unable to come up with the required supply. A Pfizer spokesman did say that they were expecting a boost in Champix sales since the price of cigarettes went up by around 30 percent but they didn't expect such a huge surge and thus they were quickly trying to increase production.
Ukmedix News has previously reported that hitting people's pockets is much more effective as a way of getting them to smoke than public health campaigns. It seems crazy that people value money much more than their health but unfortunately many individuals have a very shortsighted attitude and therefore the pain of high cigarette prices is more effective than a warning about heart disease or lung cancer.
Nevertheless, the Japanese government should follow up these high taxes with campaigns warning men that if they continue to smoke they are likely to become impotent much earlier than usual and separate warnings for women saying that they will develop wrinkles much earlier too. Ukmedix News has seen how appealing to the vanity of both men and women produces higher rates of smoking cessation than appealing to obvious health risks.
Smoking is the single most stupid thing that you can do and you should not hesitate for a second before deciding to quit. It'll either leave you impotent, looking older than your years, wheezing, broke or just dead. Take your pick!
