Patrick Swazye In Denial About His Smoking

There are some things worth dying for but a smoking habit is not one of them
One of the most pathetic things that you can see is a man or woman who has contracted cancer as a result of smoking. It is one thing to get cancer but to know that you could have prevented it by giving up a simple habit like smoking is soul destroying for not only the individual but for his family and friends who wish they had pressurised the person into quitting before.
The movie star Patrick Swayze is one such person who has ruined his glamorous life because of smoking. He has recently contracted pancreatic cancer which many people don’t realise is linked to smoking and which is sometimes called the Silent Killer because it very rarely displays any symptoms until it is very advanced and almost nothing can be done.
What is even sadder is that Patrick Swayze is almost in denial that his cigarettes have anything to do with his cancer and he is continuing to smoke while undergoing treatment. While he has admitted that smoking “probably” had something to do with his cancer he said that he is not thinking about quitting which shows how deluded he is about his habit. Sometimes when people realise the magnitude of their mistakes they cannot admit it to themselves. Any chance of Patrick Swayze recovering is diminished by his continuing to smoke.
There are some things worth dying for but a smoking habit is not one of them so if you are reading this and you are a smoker you need to take your life into your own hands and stop denying the dangers that you’re putting yourself in by continuing to smoke. There is no time like the present to quit and if you leave it too late you will regret not quitting like nothing else you have ever regretted before.

Even though I have quit for 5 years I regret ever having lit up. So much time, money and health thrown away... for NOTHING!! Patrick Swayze wake up dude!!!

Get off it, people. Smoking does not cause pancreatic cancer. And, after all, it is HIS choice, not yours. I do not smoke, but I feel we all have choices in life, and all of us make good AND bad choices. Let him live his life as he chooses, and mind your own business.

Actually smoking does increase the chances of getting cancer of the pancreas according to clinical research posted in Wikipedia. "Cigarette smoking has a risk ratio of 1.74 with regard to pancreatic cancer; a decade of non-smoking after heavy smoking is associated with a risk ration of 1.2."

Smoking has been scientifically linked to smoking. However, the benefits of giving up smoking now are negligible now that Patrick already has metastatic pancreatic cancer and a minimal life-expectancy.

Kerry,that sounds like a smokers comment to me!If he quits smoking,even if he dies tomorrow,he will have made a positive choice.If he continues to smoke he is making a negative choice,and sends out a negative message-not a good legacy to leave behind.When I have helped people quit smoking, and shown them how to get their bodies to remove the toxins,some which can remain stored in the body for life,greatly reducing quality of life,and often contributing to an early death inspite of quitting smoking,it is so rewarding to see people get yet another lift to add to the one they got when quitting smoking.

There are many people who get pancreatic cancer who do not smoke. It is his choice and no one elses. Do hate him because he is doiong something that he enjoys. You have no right to judge him. Cancer affects the healthy and well as the unhealthy.

Smoking huh? Doubt it. I've known 3 people personally in my life that had this disease. None of them smoked, however all three of them were reformed alcoholics. Seem to recall that so is Patrick.

You tell them Steve!Smoking is one of the dumbest things to do,and there is always a price to pay on a health level.If you are involved in selling anything to do with this habit,you are tainted with the death of others,whether you grow,process,market,retail/
distribute tobacco products.This is something you and your concience will have to handle.
For the user of this drug you are starving the body cells of oxygen whilst continually elevating the carbon monoxide levels in the blood,and we should all know what these factors mean.
We can not walk down a town or city street without having to walk through clouds of smoke from idiots huddled together puffing away.I can not go to a carboot sale without having to walk through clouds of smoke.We still can not go about our daily business without being able to secure our right to have one of the most important things for our health...fresh air.
Rosanna made a very odd comment which is sad "cancer affects the healthy"Well I think the clue to this comment is the meaning of the word healthy.If you are healthy you don`t get cancer!!If you steer clear of all the trash out there,and the fact that shelves are stacked full of almost nothing but trash,as are ALL take-aways is the proof that healthy people are very few and far between.
Maria,did not God create man in his own image.Do you think he has any respect for the harm a smoker does to themselves and others.We have choices and we are living in a time where we have all the facts regarding right&wrong before us.We are not "one of Gods` beautiful children" if we risk our own lives,and the lives of others by doing something harmful.You are one of the devils children!

Smoking destroys alot of people.Not just the smoker.They hurt those around them,and children they have.The kids are more likely to get asthma,but then alot of people are in denial about that too. You should all be ashamed of your selves especially if you smoke and have a kid with asthma.. Denial,denial. It's a drug,and attitude. There is ways to get rid of it nowadays,and there is NO excuse. Sorry Patrick but you are up there on the denial list. You hurt others around you when you smoke,working on the set of your movies,etc. and others you come in contact with. Just like the other smokers.. Sometimes you don't get away with smoking without having your life caughte short. Sorry,I wish you and others would've thought about it before lifting up that Cancer stick. It not only hurts you,IT HURTS ME! I have tried all my life to dodge inconsiderate people that just HAVE TO smoke,and drag my health into it. It is so hard. If you guys locked yourself up in a closed in bathroom you can smoke till you croak for all I care,just don't bring near me and other smart people that don't want you to kill them with your Cancer stick. Chew some gum guys..

I quit 2 weeks ago and reading stuff like this just makes me more determined to stay off the sh*t. I was a kid when I started but I am 27 now and I am taking responsibility for my health. What Patrick is going through is soooo much worse than withdrawals from quitting. Compared to his life now mine is heaven even while I am adjusting to life without smokes

well done all who give up smoking i contracted throat cancer ( now 10 years cured ) the only causes are smoking and heavy drinking needless to say i soon gave up smoking and am thankful i dont drink a lot my friend drank a lot and died of pancriatic cancer

It makes me mad to sit here and read comments like this. Lets just criticize everybodies stupid choices so maybe eventually one day everybody can be just like you and then once that has happened you can talk crap about the guy who only ran 20 minutes on the treadmill instead of 30. We all do stupid things so get off your high horses. And by the way what is this crap about walking through a smoke cloud, because the air regardless if it is a cloud of cigarette smoke is not healthy now anyway. Has anyone not noticed that people who don't smoke are dieing from cancers almost as frequently. Another thing everybody dies and not many of us are going to be lucky enough to go in our sleep. Most of you will die of some affliction. I smoke and someday I will die it maybe cancer, a different disease, or it can be just my time to go. I will be scared, but pretty much everybody who is going to die are scared, but everybody has to do it, so stop being weak and let people make there choices and let them deal with the consequeces. It is not a bad thing to care and try to get them to stop, but it is a bad thing to be so negative. Also if you are walking through someones cloud of smoke tell him to go somewhere else and if he doesn't listen clock him in the head it is that simple and if you want to argue the fact you shouldn't have to, well there are tons of stupid things going on everyday that we shouldn't have to deal with and thats just life and if you cannot handle go become a hermit.
