Obama's Image Dented By Smoking

they are jeopardizing their careers and their all important images

As a rule you can say that intelligent, sensible and well rounded individuals tend not to smoke and that a smoking habit can be a sign of character weaknesses.  However some people suffer from such powerful smoking addictions that their good sense flies out of the window and they continue to puff away with the full knowledge that they could be putting their health in great danger. One such person is the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

News networks in America have been giving President Obama a hard time about his smoking habit following his annual physical examination. CBS News said the despite his "immense power” he couldn't “defeat his addiction to cigarettes”.

It does make you think however that at the end of the day vastly powerful people like Presidents and Prime Ministers around the world have their own weaknesses which undermine the image of stability and consistency which they try to project. Whether you like it or not being a smoker in these health conscious days and with all the dangers about smoking clear to everybody you will look weak and stupid when you light up.

Fifty years ago smoking was not considered so taboo and Franklin Delano Roosevelt was known to be a chain smoker and even JFK smoked occasionally but this did not undermine their authority because the perception was so different in those days. President Obama unfortunately looks like an idiot when he smokes especially as he has such an amazing support system around him and a wife to whom he has promised repeatedly to quit.

So as well as the obvious health issues of smoking, powerful politicians and business leaders around the world need to know that they are jeopardizing their careers and their all important images of responsibility and strength, not only when they light up in front of their peers but even when people find out that they have the odd cigarette secretly every now and again.
