Most Smokers Want To Quit, But Just Are Not Able

80 percent of smokers actually want to quit

What is so tragic about smoking is that despite smokers knowing that the habit is doing them a lot of harm, and really wanting to quit they just can't break away from it because of their powerful addiction. Many heavily addicted smokers liken a smoking addiction to a black hole that you just can't get out of.

most smokers want to quit, but just are not able

Research recently funded by Pfizer, the manufacturers of the smoking cessation medication Champix shows that 80 percent of smokers actually want to quit. They questioned over 40,000 people half of whom were smokers in twenty different countries. Their results show the vast majority of smokers [59%] and nonsmokers [73%] reckon the government health authorities should be investing more money in getting people to quit smoking rather than just financing health care for smoking related illnesses. Ninety two percent of people who work in the healthcare industry reckoned that government financing of smoking cessation programs should be increased.

In all European countries smoking is the number one preventable cause of death and places a huge burden on the economy in the form of lost productivity and increased medical care costs. It seems crazy that governments continue to allow any form of smoking advertising when it comes with such a huge cost to the nation.

At Ukmedix News we believe there should be zero tolerance for any form of smoking promotion. Anything which promotes smoking as being fashionable such as people smoking in films or the branding of products with cigarette names should be completely banned. Many people start smoking when they are still children and the cigarette industry is aware of this. They know that if they can get you smoking when you are young enough and impressionable enough they will have a customer for life, [Even if it is a shorter life].

The only time to quit his right now, don't put it off, don't procrastinate and instead have a consultation with a doctor to see what can be done to help you.

Smokers should be struck off the NHS if they continue to smoke! They can deal with their hospital and medical bills themselves and if they cannot afford it, they will know there is no other way out they will die! Maybe that will frighten them into quitting.

I would imagine roger also thinks that fat people shouldn't get treatment, niether should drug or alcohol users. What about people who injure themselves when playing a sport? Or people who wrongly stop taking medication because they believe they no longer need it. All self inflicted Roger. I pay for my health care throught my taxes, so stop being a fascist and try having a little understanding and compassion.
