Lily Allen's Wake Up Call

Celebrities quitting smoking send a very powerful message

There is nothing like a wakeup call to help people quit smoking. For many individuals who are regular smokers the wakeup call often is too late as they are diagnosed with something serious like lung cancer or they get a stroke or heart attack.

Lily Allen

In the case of the singer Lily Allen however the wakeup call was just an asthma attack while eating which shocked her enough to realise that her smoking was getting out of control and that she had to quit.  For somebody like Lily, smoking is not only a danger to her health but also could impact negatively on her voice and ruin her career. At Ukmedix News we wish her the best of luck and hope that she will be successful in her attempt.

Celebrities quitting smoking send a very powerful message to impressionable young teenagers about the dangers of smoking and celebrities should also be aware that by smoking they are glamorising the smoking habit. The reason why so many people start smoking in the first place is to do with image rather than for the taste of tobacco.

The fact is that smoking looks cool. Smoking gives the impression of being relaxed and not too concerned about your health which has a sort of glamour to it. However smoking always catches up with people and you should try and focus on how glamorous you will look in the hospital bed with tubes coming out of different parts of your body.

For many young people there is a lot of social and peer pressure to start smoking but they should also know that it is possible to be cool without having to light up every ten minutes. Very often it is the ’uncool’ teenagers who smoke to cover up their insecurities and complexes.

At Ukmedix News we hope that more film production companies follow the lead of Disney in disallowing smoking to be portrayed as glamorous in their films and only allow smoking provided that it is portrayed in bad light. The power of the media to change smoking habits has been largely underestimated as a means of getting teenagers never to start smoking and to make adults quit.

She shouldn't smoke, it will make her ugly and old haggard looking like so many women I've seen
