Smoking even aggravates the chances of bad eyesight and blindness in old age.

Everyone knows about the dangers of smoking, especially the most often repeated ones such as month cancer, emphysema, hypertension and cardio disease but not everyone knows about the vast numbers of different illnesses that smoking can aggravate and its detrimental effect on health overall.

Less Obvious Reasons To Stop Smoking

For example simple things like heartburn which can be extremely painful and unpleasant especially in older people is greatly increased if you smoke. Some researchers say that the likelihood of heartburn increases by as much as 70 percent in those people who smoke. Heartburn is a very worrying conditions as some suffers believe that they are having heart attacks or they have some serious cardio problem and this causes them a great deal of stress.

While most people talk about your chances of getting lung cancer if you smoke not many people realise that the chances of you getting practically all types of cancer are greatly increased if you smoke. For example women are 30 percent more likely to get breast cancer if they smoke.

Another terrifying statistic is that women who smoke double the chances of their children dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Cot Death as it is more commonly known. Older men and women should also be made aware of the fact that degenerative mental illnesses move on average about five times faster in smokers than in non-smokers meaning that illnesses such as Alzheimer's can very quickly ruin lives. Smoking even aggravates the chances of bad eyesight and blindness in old age.

Men should be made aware that if they smoke all their lives the chances of suffering from erectile dysfunction are massively increased and in some cases even the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are unable to help.

When you look at the statistics objectively about smoking it is so obviously a completely reckless and stupid habit. People who smoke often live in denial about the realities of the habit because they are afraid of being unable to beat the strong addiction of nicotine. It is important however that people are made aware of the facts about smoking so that they can use them to motivate them to quit.
